This painting of female musicians performing before the emperor is inscribed by an unknown artist. In the calligraphic style of Emperor Huizong (r. 1101-25), the inscription reads: "Zhou Wenju’s Picture of United by Music, a work of genius without peer." Although attributed in the inscription to Zhou Wenju (10th century), the painting is now thought to have derived from a composite of earlier models.
